Activities
Stargazing – A dedicated sky safari
The majority of people who live in cities are unable to observe the beauty of the night sky because light pollution prohibits any form of star-gazing. Naturally then, one of the highlights for many of our guests is a chance to observe the unobstructed splendour of the Milky Way. Sabi Sabi’s prime location, well away from city lights, means boundless stargazing opportunities, regardless of the season. All stargazing at Sabi Sabi is tailored to our guests’ requests – either by the ranger whilst on evening safari, or by one of our senior rangers who can set up a telescope and together with the use of sky maps and a laser pointer take you on a dedicated sky safari. Hot glühwein and finger-snacks are the perfect accompaniment to this special safari.
Birdwatching
Sabi Sabi is a birdwatcher’s delight – home to nearly 350 species. The reserve’s varying habitats such as open grass plains, dry woodland savanna and thick riverine bush offer exciting bird watching for novice and expert alike.
Authentic Shangaan Community Tours
For decades, visitors to Sabi Sabi have been intrigued by the local Shangaan culture and customs of nearby villages. Stories are shared by the many Shangaan staff members who call the private game reserve home; with their rich heritage, in-depth knowledge of the bushveld and local legends adding a fascinating dimension to a memorable safari. Now guests are able to gain even more insight into authentic village life by taking part in a tour of neighbouring communities during their stay at Sabi Sabi. Homes, schools, community centres and sports facilities are participating in the tour; and the proceeds from the small fee levied to guests all go directly back to the community.
